A GUIDE TO OFF SEASON PHOTOGRAPHY | JENNI BLAKE | JBPD, LLC.

It’s no secret the winter months are less busy for photographers than the spring/summer/fall…I guess that is unless you live in an area that has a mild climate year round then to you I say LUCKY DOG!! But for the majority of us there are months of not so accommodating weather where all we want to do is curl up with coffee and a blanket.

This winter I’m getting anxious for the weather to change so I can get to shooting. There may be a few people who would brave the cold with me for portraits, but honestly, I dislike the cold weather so much and I’m pretty sure it dislikes me just the same. So, what’s a photographer to do?

I had a dream last night that I was seeing everything up close, like all I was looking at was as big as me and I saw every detail of the object/person – weird, I know. But when I awoke I took it as an answer to the question I had been asking myself recently. An answer to my dilemma. I’ve mentioned before how much I have enjoyed my macro lens and decided that dream was telling me to get out and capture object up close. To explore the world around me in a way I have not before – in new light (and shadows).

So today, I used what I had in the house and got to shooting. As you can see by several of these images I had apples, oranges and a succulent. An they were the best clients. 🙂

My recommendation is just to get shooting. Look around you and work with what you have. Explore techniques with light and shadows and learn more about your camera and finely tune your editing process. This world of photography is always evolving, always changing and so we as photographers have to adapt with its ebb and flow.

I’m a complete sucker for black and white images because I LOVE looove the mood it can create. So today, I explored creating a mood with color images. There is always room for growth and no process is perfect. And of course, what I’m feeling with the image may not be your preference and it’s all ok. 🙂

I appreciate you spending a minute with me today! I’d love to connect with you on the socials – come say hi!

XO,
JB
