From Grandma With Love

In 2011, my father went to be with Jesus, and just six months later, his mother—my sweet Grandma—followed him home. Before she passed, she gifted me something I will cherish forever: her recipe boxes.

These weren’t just boxes. They were memories. We had spent countless hours together in her kitchen when I was growing up—baking, talking, laughing, and creating. So when she placed those boxes in my hands, it felt like she was giving me a piece of our time together.

Inside, I discovered recipes reaching all the way back to 1948—handwritten cards, worn newspaper clippings, magazine cutouts, and family favorites passed between friends and neighbors. Some were scribbled in her handwriting, complete with notes and little comments only she would think to add. Each card feels like a tiny window into who she was, what she loved, and how she nourished the people around her.

Receiving these boxes was one of the most meaningful gifts I’ve ever been given. They connect me to my family, to my childhood, and to the story of the women who came before me. They remind me how powerful food can be—how it holds memories, emotions, and legacies.

The recipes she carefully saved over the years once sparked her creativity. Now, they spark mine.

This is my journey of bringing them back to life—one dish at a time.
