Savoring Memories: My Father’s Delicious Sour Cream Softies Cookie Recipe

When I reflect on my childhood with my Father in the kitchen I think of three things; chocolate chip pancakes, no bake cookies and these sour cream softies. There’s nothing quite like the comforting taste of a childhood treat.

These cookies are so incredibly airy and soft on the inside even though the batter is quite thick. And the cinnamon sugar topping is everything. #toppingfromheaven

These cookies are soft, chewy, and have just the right amount of sweetness to satisfy any sweet tooth.

What makes these cookies so special is the use of sour cream in the recipe. It gives them a unique tangy-ness that sets them apart from your average sugar cookie. The recipe is simple, using ingredients that you probably already have in your pantry.

What makes this recipe even more special is that after I received my Grandmother’s box of recipes, the recipe card my father had created for these cookies was inside one of the boxes. Seeing his handwriting filled me with memories of him, and I was instantly transported back to that little girl in the kitchen waiting for him to say it’s cookie time. ♥

Sour Cream Softies

3 Cups Flour
1.5 Cups Sugar
1 tsp. Salt
1/2 tsp. Baking Powder
1/2 tsp. Baking Soda
1/2 Cup (1 Stick) Butter
2 Eggs
1 tsp. Vanilla
1 Cup (8 oz. carton) Sour Cream
Cinnamon Sugar Mixture = 1/4 Cup Sugar & 1 Tablespoon Ground Cinnamon

Preheat oven to 400F degrees.

Measure flour, salt, baking powder and baking soda in a sifter.

Cream butter and sugar together in a large bowl until well combined.

Beat in eggs and vanilla.

Incorporate flour mixture alternatively with sour cream, blending well to make a thick batter.

Drop by rounded tablespoons on baking sheet.

Sprinkle with cinnamon sugar mixture.

Bake for 12 minutes. Bottoms of cookies will be brown.

Cool and devour. 🙂

Store in air tight container if you have leftovers.
